And it was now time to see if we had a nesting pair of bluebirds. It was May 19th, and as I hid in the tall grass, about 100 feet away, I reminded myself of the doctor’s appointment I had to leave for in about an hour. Fading from the impressionism of my surroundings into the realism of the environment, it took only a few minutes before I saw a pointillist dot of blue flick out of the nest box. I needed to move closer.

Mirror photo by William Kibler Just as many health care workers have set an example for the community with mask-wearing during the coronavirus pandemic, participants in the launch of UPMC Altoona’s employee vaccination program on Friday cited the importance of their exemplary role in helping to promote COVID-19 vaccinations in the area. “They were willing to go first to show the community the vaccine is safe and effective,” Dr. David Burwell, chief quality officer at the hospital, said after administering injections to five frontline workers representing a variety of hospital departments. “We appreciate their leadership.”
