Not Cho Cheesecake carries founder s legacy

Oklahoman BETHANY  Shoshianna Moore’s pursuit of her dreams was a force of nature and this town’s vintage downtown shopping hub has a sweet living legacy called Not Cho Cheesecake to prove it.   The 32-year-old Army combat veteran, mother of one and fiancee to Glen Whitaker launched her Not Cho Cheesecake business from home in the summer of 2019 and a storefront just months later.  When the COVID-19 pandemic came along, Moore’s foxhole mentality helped her endure the setback and open in August 2020.  “We had a line all the way to the end of the block,” Whitaker recalled.  Only three months after whipping her dream into a bona fide bricks-and-mortar business, Moore died of complications associated with liver failure.

Pandemic chaos leads to opportunity fresh from the oven for local baker

Oklahoman When the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled Michelle Bui’s best laid plans for 2020 she mourned like everyone else, but then she started baking like no one’s ever seen and now her outlook for 2021 is on the rise.  On Saturday, Bui and her sister Anna will be back out at the OSU-OKC Scissortail Farmers Market, this time with more inventory after their baked goods were wiped out before noon during the season’s first event.  The Hokkaido milk bread from Bui’s Breads has quickly grown an audience since she began offering it for sale last summer. That inspired her to add sourdough, Hawaiian rolls and pretzels to the menu, which she currently creates in the family kitchen.

Ron s Burgers leaving May Avenue; Charcoal Oven sneaks open

Oklahoman Woke up in the mood for an OG burger today, and headed to North May Avenue where I learned that one local burger gem was moving and another had quietly resurrected.  First stop was Ron’s Hamburgers and Chili, 4723 N May Ave. It’s one of two Oklahoma City metro area locations of the Tulsa-based franchise. Over a chili cheeseburger and Spanish Fries, I was able to confirm the cafe will be moving at the end of the month. Mayfair Village, in the midst of a major overhaul of the shopping center, notified Ron’s its lease was being terminated as part of the ongoing remodel.
