DAVAO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) Davao Center for Health Development recorded on Thursday (May 20) 172 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The DOH data shows that 104 of these cases were recorded in Davao City, 28 in Davao del Norte, 26 in Davao de Oro, seven in Davao Oriental, four in Davao del Sur, and three in Davao Occidental.
One death was also recorded in Davao City bringing the total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the region to 1,044. Davao City has recorded a total of 721 fatalities.
Meanwhile, 27 new recoveries were also recorded. The DOH said 24 of these were from Davao City and three from Davao de Oro.

DAVAO CITY – Frontline health workers at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) were immunized against COVID-19 at the start of the vaccination campaign here Friday.

SPMC officer-in-charge medical chief Dr. Ricardo Audan was the first to be immunized among SPMC healthcare workers.
He said 70 percent of SPMC employees are willing to get vaccinated.
“’Yung total ng empleyado na gustong magpa-vaccine, we are 70 percent that is almost 4,000. Kasi 5,900 kami dito (The total number of employees who are willing to get vaccinated is at 70 percent that is almost 4,000. March 03, 2021 NINETY-EIGHT percent of the total personnel of the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) are willing to be inoculated with Covid-19 vaccine.
PRO-Davao Spokesperson Police Major Eudisan Gultiano said in a press conference on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, that over 8,500 out of the 9,000 police in the region are willing to be inoculated with the vaccine, based on their recently conducted survey.
Those who were included in the survey were police personnel from different provinces in Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental and in Davao City.
Gultiano said some of those who refused to be injected with Covid-19 vaccine cited personal reasons such as religious belief, while others cited their fears of injection.
