The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing workers who marched to the National Assembly Complex in Abuja to protest the bill.

Ogun Assembly elects new deputy speaker

Punch Newspapers Sections Daud Olatunji, Abeokuta OGUN State House of Assembly on Tuesday elected a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Balogun Akeem, as the new Deputy Speaker. Balogun’s emergence followed the removal of the former deputy speaker, Oludare Kadiri, who represents Ijebu-North II State Constituency, for gross misconduct. Balogun became the new Deputy Speaker sequel to his nomination by a member representing Remo North State Constituency, Solomon Osho. The motion was seconded by the member, Ijebu-North East constituency, Abayomi Fasuwa; and was unanimously adopted by lawmakers present during plenary. Earlier, the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Deji Adeyemo presented a report on the vacancy in the office of the Deputy Speaker.

Daniel supports broadcasting college in Ogun

Punch Newspapers Sections Daud Olatunji,Abeokuta A former governor of Ogun state,  Gbenga Daniel has thrown his weight behind the  take-off of the College of Broadcasting by the Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria . The college located in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, is being floated  by FIBAN  in affiliation with Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun state. It  will serve as a training institute for broadcasters and prospective broadcasters. Daniel declared his support for the media college when members of FIBAN, led by their National President, Desmond Nwachuku, paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta. Daniel,  said the college, when fully operational would encourage  professionalism and curb mediocrity in the broadcasting industry.

Investigations on Monday showed that  some of the local governments were  being administered by caretaker committees constituted by state governors. This  contradicts  a 2016 judgment of the Supreme Court, which voided laws enacted by state Houses of Assembly that empowered governors to sack elected local government chairmen and councillors and replace them with caretaker committees. Findings   showed that states, which had yet to conduct local government elections despite the expiration of elected officers’ tenures included Ogun, Katsina  Anambra, Kwara, Osun, Zamfara and Sokoto.
