The National Association of Resident Doctors has said that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria does not have the legal right to bar trainee doctors from joining the union or industrial action during their one-year internship.
The association insisted that the trainee doctors remain key stakeholders in NARD.
The Chairman of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Prof. Abba Hassan, had during the swearing-in of new trainee doctors, warned them against participating in industrial actions.
The MDCN chairman maintained that house officer engaging in industrial action “is an illegal act which will not be further tolerated.”

The Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, has raised the alarm that arms and ammunitions are being imported into Ogun State.
The monarch, who spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta on Tuesday, which was attended by some northern governors, said the whole of Yewaland had been infiltrated with arms and ammunition.
He said the development had exposed people living in the area to serious attacks by armed herdsmen.
He lamented that farmers in the area had suffered huge losses, which might not be recoverable on time except they got help from the government.
Four dead in Ijebu Ode -Benin Expressway accident

Four persons were, on Sunday, burnt to death in a lone accident involving a commercial bus at Atoyo, inbound Ogbere along Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
According to Akinbiyi, the accident, which occurred around 11:50 am, was caused by a brake failure and disobedience on the part of the driver of the bus.
He said, “A tanker loaded with black oil inbound Benin on the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway, spilled its content on the road due to leakage from the tanker and had to stop when the attention of the driver was called by other drivers driving in the same direction.
