Boy born to Filipino mother and Malaysian father loses appeal to get citizenship 28 May 2021 / 14:54 H. -Pix for illustration purposes PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court, in a majority 4-3 decision, today dismissed an appeal by a 10-year-old boy who was born to a Malaysian father and a Filipino mother to get Malaysian citizenship. Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Rohana Yusuf, who delivered the court’s majority decision, said the child did not meet the requisite criteria under the Federal Constitution to be declared a Malaysian citizen by operation of law. The child was born in the Philippines in September 2010 and a few months later, he and his parents travelled to Malaysia where the couple registered their marriage in February 2011.

PUTRAJAYA: Residents of a condominium in Sungai Ara today lost in their appeal to set aside the decision of the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) in granting planning permission to a property developer to develop a housing scheme on a hillslope. In dismissing the appeal, Court of Appeal judge Datuk Yaacob Sam, who chaired a three-member panel, said the court agreed with the High Court’s findings and affirmed its findings and decision. “We find there are no merits in the appeal which warrant us to exercise our appellate intervention. We unanimously dismiss this appeal,“ he added.

Federal Court allows developer s appeal to quash compensation awarded to Singaporean housebuyer

PUTRAJAYA (Feb 10): The Federal Court here today allowed the appeal by a Danga Bay housing project developer in Johor to quash the compensatory award given by the Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims to a Singaporean house buyer. A three-member bench comprising Federal Court judges Puan Sri Zaleha Yusof, Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang allowed Country Garden Danga Bay Sdn Bhd (CGDB) s appeal to set aside the Court of Appeal s decision in dismissing its judicial review to quash the award given by the Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims. The court ordered the respondent, Ho Chee Kian, to pay RM30,000 in costs.
