Gladstone Regional Council is running an awareness campaign on cybersecurity from its libraries and customer service locations. Residents can learn how to protect their computers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attacks as well as collect a free cyber security mousepad. Gladstone Region Councillor Darryl Branthwaite said there were many different types of cyber security threats including spyware, malware, phishing, spear phishing, pharming and more. “Most people in the Gladstone Region would hear the term ‘spear phishing’ and think it relates to a day out on our beautiful waterways, but there’s something fishier at play in this instance,” Cr Branthwaite said.

Water works: Contract to replace Gladstone mains

Premium Content Subscriber only A contract will be awarded by Gladstone Regional Council this month for the replacement of three water mains in work that will take until May 2022. Councillors voted on awarding the contract to NTS Group at the recent council meeting. The three water mains are located in the Gladstone CBD, New Auckland and Clinton. Tenders for the replacement of the water mains on Sandpiper Avenue, Aerodrome Road and Auckland Street closed on March 9, with four submissions received. Each submission was assessed by council staff on criteria including price, local content, understanding council requirements, past projects and timing.

$1 2M project to upgrade aquatic centre nears finishing line

Gladstone Regional Council installed the boundary fence to improve the overall aesthetics of the site, providing a vast improvement on the chain link fence that previously occupied the space. So far, the swimming pool has received minor tile and crack repair work, a new electrical switchboard as well as a new, blue colour scheme. Upgrades to the Aquatic Playpark and filtration plant are now underway with the completion date for the play park set for June, and filtration to be completed by May.

Business Clean Up Day (2 March), School Clean Up Day (5 March) and the official Clean Up Australia Day (7 March) are taking place across the region. Gladstone Regional Council encouraged residents to take pride in their region and register online to participate in 2021 Clean Up Australia Day activities on Sunday, March 7. Gladstone Region Councillor Darryl Branthwaite said the community could register with a group by visiting the Clean Up Australia Day website (www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au).
