KickOff.com can reveal that former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet is set to turn out for DStv Premiership club Cape Town City next season.
Keet, who spent the last few months playing for GladAfrica championship outfit Cape Umoya United, is set to join City on a three-year deal.
The move follows the departure of Peter Leeuwenburgh, who has returned to the Netherlands to join Eredivisie side FC Groningen ahead of the new season.
According to a source close to Citizens, Keet will not be continuing in the lower division and is set to return to the top flight to try and reclaim his Bafana Bafana spot.
The top South African keeper had his contract at Belgian club OH Leuven terminated last year.
The 31-year-old has now decided to finish the season in the playing squad rather than just training with the GladAfrica Championship team. We go back a long way. I signed him as a 17-year-old and played him at Wits. It s called loyalty and trust, De Sa tells
KickOff.com.
De Sa was asked if he is planning to keep the former Bidvest Wits number one beyond the current season and if there are offers from DStv Premiership clubs. We will see, he says. He s the best in the country. There should be [offers]. Decision will be made at the end of the season. No rush.
