Cape Town City sign goalkeeper Darren Keet

Jun 3, 2021 - 01:07 pm By Ernest Fakude & Sipho Mlotha KickOff.com can reveal that former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet is set to turn out for DStv Premiership club Cape Town City next season. Keet, who spent the last few months playing for GladAfrica championship outfit Cape Umoya United, is set to join City on a three-year deal.  The move follows the departure of Peter Leeuwenburgh, who has returned to the Netherlands to join Eredivisie side FC Groningen ahead of the new season. According to a source close to Citizens, Keet will not be continuing in the lower division and is set to return to the top flight to try and reclaim his Bafana Bafana spot.

How Roger de Sa convinced Darren Keet to sign for Cape Umoya United

The top South African keeper had his contract at Belgian club OH Leuven terminated last year. The 31-year-old has now decided to finish the season in the playing squad rather than just training with the GladAfrica Championship team. We go back a long way. I signed him as a 17-year-old and played him at Wits. It s called loyalty and trust, De Sa tells KickOff.com. De Sa was asked if he is planning to keep the former Bidvest Wits number one beyond the current season and if there are offers from DStv Premiership clubs. We will see, he says. He s the best in the country. There should be [offers]. Decision will be made at the end of the season. No rush.

Cape Town City s time to beat Kaizer Chiefs is now, says ex-keeper Shu-Aib Walters

Cape Town City’s time to beat Kaizer Chiefs is now, says ex-keeper Shu-Aib Walters Zaahier Adams © Provided by Independent Online (IOL) CAPE TOWN – Former Cape Town City goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters believes that The Citizens have “a golden opportunity” to turn the tables on Kaizer Chiefs in their Dstv Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday. City have not enjoyed the best results against Chiefs over past few seasons, unlike when Walters minded The Citizens goal in the early years of the club when the Cape side dominated the encounters. “Back when we played Chiefs, we were starting out as a club in the PSL, and they were the Mighty Amakhosi. We knew it was a massive game, the stadium would be full, the adrenalin would be pumping, we didn’t need extra motivation to want to do well on the day,” Walters told IOL Sport.
