Published Jun 09, 2021As predicted, Deafheaven have announced a new album called
Infinite Granite. It s out August 20 through Sargent House, and the post-metal band have shared the single Great Mass of Color now.
The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, engineered by longtime Deafheaven collaborator Jack Shirley at his Atomic Garden East studio in Oakland, CA, and mixed by Darrell Thorp.
A press release promises another giant leap forward full of defiant beauty. Apparently frontman George Clarke mostly avoids his usual black metal shriek on
Infinite Granite, with his focus instead on melody and clean singing.
The Foos reunited with master pop producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) on the LP, which was completed before the pandemic shut everything down. Finding the right time to unleash it, that was a challenge. There was this series of conversations like, Should we do it now? It s not a good time. What about now? No, no, recounts frontman Dave Grohl.
Medicine was engineered by Darrell Thorp and mixed by Mark âSpikeâ Stent.
In the same interview with USA Today, drummer Taylor Hawkins says the result is like two records in one . He adds, you ve got your disco, dancey, groove-oriented album, and then other half is pretty traditional Foo Fighters rock music. So if you don t like the dancey bits, just fast forward.
