New Delhi, Apr 21 (IANS): As many as eight Indians went through to the final of the AIBA Youth Men s and Women s World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland.
In the first bout of the day on Tuesday, Gitika (48kg) set the tone for the Indian contingent with a resounding 5-0 win over Italy s Erika Prisciandaro. She will take on Poland s Natalia Dominika in the final.
Asian Youth Champion Babyrojisana Chanu (51 kg) made light work of Italy s Elen Ayari and won the match comfortably.
The Manipuri Boxer attacked throughout the bout with a lot of intensity and earned a unanimous 5-0 verdict in her favour. She will square off against Russia s Valeria Linkova in the finals on Thursday.

Indian women boxers continued their fine run as Alfiya Pathan (81+kg) ensured the first gold medal for India while Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg), Vinka (60kg), Arundhati (69kg) and Sanamacha Chanu (75kg) stormed into the finals of the 30th Adriatic Pearl Tournament in Budva, Montenegro with impressive display.
Living up to the expectations, 2019 Asian junior Girls Champion Alfiya Pathan (81+kg) showed superb form and fitness to notch up an easy 5-0 win against Daria Kozorev of Moldova and earned the first gold medal for India. Nagpur’s Alifya looked in complete control throughout the match and made the opponent work hard with her swift movement and precise punches.
