The committee instead recommended the city partner with Chaves County in the Air Center’s management. The recommendation comes just a little over two years after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law House Bill 227, introduced into the House of Representatives and the Senate by legislators representing Roswell.

County to provide more relief funding for small businesses

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record A second round of business relief funding for Chaves County small businesses outside the Roswell city limits is due to be dispersed starting Monday. Interim County Manager Bill Williams said that $153,016 in grants to nine businesses in Dexter, Hagerman, Lake Arthur and unincorporated areas of the county have been awarded to cover COVID-19 related expenses and costs incurred from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021. “We had more requests monetarily that we had funds to go out, so we had to reduce everything to 44%,” he said. Williams said he personally visited small businesses in the county to encourage them to apply if they met the criteria.

The group voted unanimously, 5-0, Thursday during its regular monthly meeting for a resolution in favor of state meat inspections as a supplement to the federal meat inspection process. Commissioner Jeff Bilberry, the vice president of a ranching corporation, said he thinks such a program could help not only beef producers but also those who raise hogs and lambs. He said it also could help the smaller meat packing companies in the state that don’t have access to federal inspectors.
