US Congress approves resolution condemning Sudan military coup

The US Congress overwhelmingly approved a draft resolution on Thursday, condemning the October 25 military coup, and voicing support for the people of Sudan. It also demands that the military junta lift the State of Emergency and return the country to the path of democratic transition.

John Godfrey confirmed as first US Ambassador to Sudan in 25 years

The US Senate has confirmed John Godfrey as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Sudan. Sudan has been served by a deputy ambassador, so that Ambassador Godfrey, who is expected to take up his post in Khartoum within days, will be the first fully ranked US ambassador to Sudan in 25 years.

Sudan: US Congressional Delegation visits Khartoum and North Darfur

A delegation from the US Congress arrived in Sudan on Tuesday as part of a three-day visit to Khartoum and North Darfur. The delegation, whose first destination was the North Darfur capital of El Fasher, includes members of the US Congress headed by Norma Torres, along with Sarah Jacobs, accompanied by the US delegation to the United Nations, United States Mission to the United Nations Ambassador Christopher Lu, and Minister Counsellor Jake Sherman, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Sudan Lucy Tamlyn, and representatives of the UNITAMS mission under the auspices of the United Nations Foundation.

Sudan s Emergency lawyers discuss human rights issues with US envoy

Sudan’s Emergency Lawyers say that they have discussed 15 items, including human rights violations perpetrated during and subsequent to the October 25 2021 military coup, in a meeting on Thursday with US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, who was on a five-day visit to Sudan.
