Reptile Gardens is officially open for the 2021 Season

KNBN NewsCenter1 March 6, 2021 RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Wild Animal park welcomed visitors for the first time since November on Saturday and it was a beautiful day to do so. Locals and visitors alike, pressed their faces against the glass to see the alligators, crocodiles, snakes and tortoises up close and personal. Officials say the first day was a busy one, an optimistic forecast for what this season may bring. “Opening day has been awesome and once we saw that the weather was going to be in the 60s, we knew it was going to be a busy day. Everyone’s been kind of cooped up this whole winter inside and the weather couldn’t have been better, everything is running smoothly. It’s been a very busy day and we just couldn’t be happier,” said Horticulture Curator for Reptile Gardens David Yahne.

March Gladness helps children of trauma and seniors

Monday is day one for March Gladness, a fundraising event taking place all month long to benefit the Children’s Home Advocacy Center and the Minneluzahan Senior Center. Throughout the month of March, the Rushmore Rotary and Thai-to-Go are asking individuals to help support children who have endured trauma and seniors who have been isolated due to the pandemic by purchasing a meal. This course of action to raise funds is the plan b to the annual Children’s Home Gala that normally takes place at Mount Rushmore. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Gala has been cancelled this year.

Club for Boys heads to Deerfield Lake for Hooked on Hardwater mentorship program

KNBN NewsCenter1 February 28, 2021 DEERFIELD LAKE, S.D. For the eighth year, the Club for Boys hit Deerfield Lake for “Hooked on Hardwater.” The event is about mentorship and giving back. Every year since 2012, Rapid City’s Club for Boys has paired young boys ages six to 17 with professional ice fishermen for some ice fishing lessons through the “Hooked on Hardwater” program. 60 boys are paired with 60 pros. The goal? To build bridges with young boys, many of whom have no role model to emulate. ” A lot of our members might not have a positive male role model in the home so this gives them that along with just being with somebody that’s always going to be there to encourage them,” said Chantel McDonnell, Director of Development at the Club for Boys
