Hill prioritizes education, support through memorial

Retired Tech Sgt. Larry Dreamis Hill of Cecilia often can be found at the replica Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at Elizabethtown Nature Park, donning a long, gray beard and hat that reads “Vietnam Veteran.” For Hill, both the beard and the hat are hard-earned. When Hill served in Vietnam in 1968, he was not allowed to grow facial hair. And when he returned home from the war, he found that even members of American Legion halls were not receptive to Vietnam veterans. Now that he is retired from the military and has helped establish a large-scale memorial for his fallen military brothers and sisters, he has no intention of shaving his face or hiding his veteran insignia. In fact, Hill said his vocal support for military veterans is a way of demonstrating his First Amendment rights, which is one of the chief principles he sought to defend by joining the military initially.

Unicorn stay top as Wensleydale Creamery League restarts

THE Wensleydale Creamery League wasted no time in getting restarted after the lockdown, although several of the title contenders still perhaps had their thoughts on Netflix boxsets and decision about which takeaway to order from. Scott Ryan and Kalem Stanger got on the scoresheet in the first half for Spenni, with two more from Guy Hutchinson and Lee Thompson securing the points for the Wensleydale team. Richmond Mavericks suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Richmond Town Reserves, failing to score in a game for the first time this season.

Archiving Black histories of Silicon Valley

By Melissa De Witte While there have been a number of extraordinary Black Americans who have helped transform Silicon Valley into a global hub of high-tech industry and innovation, their lives, stories and accomplishments have been largely absent from public record. In late 2019, Stanford Libraries organized two community events that brought some of Silicon Valley’s Black pioneers together for an afternoon of storytelling. Attendees included San Jose community organizer Queen Ann Cannon, pictured here talking with Carl Davis Jr., president of the Black Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. In the background is the entrepreneur Danny Allen and Janie Jensen. The event was recorded for the archive. (Image credit: Chris Cotton)
