COLOMBO (News 1st): Certain individuals are attempting to misuse the emergency hotlines introduced for the convenience of the general public to provide vital information to the respective authorities, Sri Lanka Police have observed.
“Especially, the 119, 118, and 1997 emergency hotlines have been introduced for the general public to provide vital information to Sri Lanka Police. Specifically, the 119 centre is introduced to provide information about crimes, accidents, and disaster situations. However, it has been observed that various parties from time to time misuse these emergency numbers,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Apr. 20).
According to the Deputy Police Chief, on the 18th of April 2021, the 119 emergency centre received a call where the informant had provided information regarding a group of people attempting to carry out an attack on the Dankotuwa Police Station with explosives.

Tests carried out on samples from the two bowser trucks containing coconut oil – which were recently taken into custody at Dankotuwa – have indicated the presence of Aflatoxin, says the spokesperson of Sri Lanka Customs.
The two bowser trucks were seized by Dankotuwa Police on the 30th of March, on suspicion of containing carcinogenic substances.
A total of 27,500 liters of coconut oil had been taken into custody from the two bowser trucks which were parked at a mill in the Dankotuwa area.
Samples from seized coconut oil stock were directed to the Government Analyst for testing.

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said it is still conducting tests on suspected carcinogenic coconut oil imported to the country.
“Samples were obtained from all districts,” said one CAA officer while the Director-General of the CAA said samples were also obtained from all coconut oil brands available in the Sri Lankan market.
The Consumer Affairs Authority said it has called for the reports to be made available soon, in response to allegations that the reports would be only be received after the festive season.
