Co-MVPs of the Week: Pangos, Zenit and Davies, Barcelona

Zenit struck first, taking Game 1 by 74-76 on Wednesday as Pangos scored game-high 19 points, making all 3 of his two-point attempts while knocking down 4 of 6 three-pointers. The Zenit playmaker also dished a personal playoffs high of 9 assists to go with 3 rebounds and 7 fouls drawn. Davies returned the favor by leading Barcelona to an 81-78 overtime win in Game 2 between them. CSKA Moscow shut down Nando De Colo in the fourth quarter to take Game 1 of the EuroLeague Playoffs against Fenerbahce on Wednesday with a 92-76 win. But they will have to remain focussed as in the words of head coach Dimitris Itoudis: “A hard and long series awaits”.  On Wednesday, Will Clyburn put up a fantastic display in the paint with 20 points, but it was the Moscow side’s three-point shooting that highlighted their winning performance. Daniel Hackett joined Clyburn with 20, hitting four of five from three, as Semen Antunov had 9 with three of three made from beyond the arc.

Fenerbahce held CSKA without a field goal for the first 8 minutes of the third quarter to cut the difference to 52-51, but couldn t tie or go ahead, after which CSKA slowly pulled away. Daniel Hackett led the winners with 14 points and 9 assists. Tornike Shengelia added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while Nikia Kurbanov chipped in 10 points. Marko Guduric led Fenerbahce with 27 points while Nando De Colo and Danilo Barthel had 9 each.
