The digital edition of the 22nd annual Hot Docs Forum concluded last week with eight of 20 projects searching for international funding presented to a panel of experts. Pitched projects included in part two of the forum included The Age of Loneliness, about scientists and researchers’ work to understand why many insect species are at risk of extinction; and

Logline:  Fire of Love is an unexpected love story of two intrepid scientists, Katia and Maurice Krafft, who die in a volcanic explosion doing the very thing that brought them together: seeking to understand the magic of volcanoes by capturing the most explosive imagery ever recorded. Director/producer Dosa pitched with producers Shane Boris and Ina Fichman. Fire of Love, which will weave a trove of archival footage with cutout animation, is set to be finished in time to premiere at a major festival. The team is looking for partners in streamers, broadcasters, funds and/or investors. Greg Boustead, founding director of Sandbox Films, an investor in the project, said he was “blown away” by the archive material.

Previously, she worked as an independent filmmaker and reporter covering India for the  Times, the  Agence France-Presse. “Poh brings a wealth of documentary experience as a commissioning editor, producer and journalist to IDA,” said Simon Kilmurry, IDA’s executive director, in a statement. As previously reported, Kilmurry will step down from the IDA in mid-2021. “Her vision will be essential as IDA continues to build its support of documentary makers both nationally and internationally.”

St. Louis Superman Producer Poh Si Teng Joins International Documentary Association as Funds Director (EXCLUSIVE) Naman Ramachandran, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail Poh Si Teng, producer of Oscar-nominated documentary short “St. Louis Superman,” has joined the International Documentary Association (IDA) as the new director of the IDA Funds and Enterprise program. Poh will oversee and build IDA’s grants portfolio and serve as a key liaison with the documentary field in the U.S. and globally, working with IDA’s program officer Dana Merwin. More from Variety Poh succeeds Carrie Lozano who joined the Sundance Institute as director of the documentary film program in fall 2020.
