Sean Desmond mined his experiences growing up in 1980s Dallas for his new novel, ‘Sophomores’ The story follows a student at Jesuit College Preparatory School, his alma mater. Sean Desmond grew up in 1980s Dallas and graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School, which is featured in his new novel, Sophomores. The veteran of the publishing industry released his first novel, Adams Fall, in 2000.(Hillery Stone) That’s the setting for his new novel, Sophomores, which follows a Jesuit student named Dan Malone and his parents, Pat and Anne, through a tumultuous 1987. We caught up with Desmond, who lives in Brooklyn and is the publisher of Twelve, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, to talk about his new book. It comes out Jan. 26.

if the intent is to mirror what the federal intend is than draw the law that way. you make it clear, language that protects every citizen in that state from discrimination. when you can t answer that question fundamentally you are on a slippery slope with the broader public. that s what this law does. it protects every citizen in indiana from government discrimination. it s because the government cannot course exercising free expression of religion it is the same standard as 31 other states. no it is not. dan says it s discrimination. it strikes me that all of the businesses currently boycotting indiana say they want to run
