Obrigado has been perfect so far in 2021, with two wins in Freehold Raceway s Preferred Handicap Trot. He will try to make it three in a row on Friday (Jan. 29), and is once again likely to be a big favourite. Co-owned and trained by Paul Kelley, Obrigado is one of the classiest trotters on the east coast, having won 55 times in his career including numerous major stakes wins and boasting earnings of almost $2 million. So far in his 11-year-old season, he has won two Freehold Preferred Handicaps while leading at every point of call. He will try to do it again from post position eight with Dan Dubé listed to drive.

The Harold Kelly Memorial Pacing Series comes to a conclusion at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (Jan. 23). The series, named in hounor of the great New Jersey horseman who passed last fall, began on Jan. 9 and was split up into two divisions. Over the past two weeks, New Jersey-sired, owned and foaled horses have been battling it out, and the top eight point-earners in each division have advanced to the final. The Division I final, for horses who started the series with a TrackMaster Horse Rating between 68.00 and 71.50, is scheduled as the sixth race, with a listed post time of 2:10 p.m. The purse is set at $10,000.

The Vinny Fusco Jr. Memorial Pacing Series for New Jersey-owned, sired or foaled fillies and mares wraps up at Freehold Raceway on Friday (Jan. 22) with a pair of finals. The $10,000 final for the first division is for horses with TrackMaster Horse Ratings between 68.00 and 71.50. The winners of the first two legs, Duck N Roll and Southwind Tsunami, drew post positions seven and eight, respectively. Southwind Tsunami, who races for trainer Mark Capone, upset at 10-1 in the first leg and finished fifth in leg two last week as the favourite. She will have a new driver Friday afternoon: Jim Marohn Jr. After a fourth-place finish in leg one, Duck N Roll won the second leg last week with a strong rally from the back of the pack. She is trained by Izzy Estrada, and will be driven by Luke Hanners.
