Ames Tribune The Ames Chamber’s 2020 annual report, released this week, highlights some of the ways Story County workers and businesses have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Ames’ unemployment rate, which was at 2% in November, marked the lowest rate of all metropolitan areas in the United States at that time, according to figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. “At our high point, we were just over 9% in the late spring, early summer,” said Dan Culhane, president and CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce. “But that didn’t last. We’re back down to the lowest unemployment rate for a metropolitan statistical area in the country.”

Ames Chamber of Commerce announces promotions From staff reports Allee Wengert and John Hall have been promoted within the Ames Chamber of Commerce, the organization announced earlier this month. Wengert, who joined the Chamber in 2019, moved into the position of director of creative design and communications, where she will expand upon the design and video work from her previous role as marketing coordinator, according to a news release.  “Allee has been here a short time but she has clearly illustrated her value to the organization,” Chamber president and CEO Dan Culhane said in the release. “Her contributions are many, and this new title and shift in responsibilities will fit her well.”

Ames Economic Development Commission and city of Boone sign agreement Tuesday, December 22, 2020 3:07 PM The Ames Economic Development Commission and the city of Boone are partnering to support economic development in Boone. According to a news release, the Boone City Council approved a 12-month contract with the AEDC Monday night. It will become effective Jan. 1, 2021. The agreement will tap into new resources that Boone city officials have identified as being critically important to keep Boone growing. The focus of the agreement will be business retention and program expansion and to provide a variety of workforce programming to support the local business community. “We know that the majority of new jobs come from existing employers and we believe working with the team at the AEDC will help us expand those relationships and maximize those opportunities,” Boone City Administrator William Skare said in the release.
