ROCHESTER, N.Y. New York’s state attorney general is calling on church leaders to help lead the charge for criminal justice reform in Rochester. Letitia James met with church leaders Wednesday morning, discussing the death of Daniel Prude and the grand jury decision to not charge officers who responded to the call which led to his death.

Tanner Dalton Byrd of Watauga County is among 50 new troopers to graduate in the 152nd Fast-Track Basic Highway Patrol School.
The cadets spent nine consecutive weeks at the training academy without visiting home, to ensure maximum protection for the cadets from outside exposure to COVID-19.
These new state troopers will report to their respective duty stations on Wednesday, Jan. 13, to begin a demanding field training program.
Byrd has been assigned to the Charlotte region for duty.
