Unfit bus collides with another, killing eight in Sylhet
We are appalled at yet another horrific road accident that left eight people killed and 17 injured. According to a report in this daily, a recklessly driven London Express bus collided with an Ena Paribahan bus head-on in Sylhet s Dakshin Surma upazila killing four people on the spot with the others succumbing to their injuries at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. We are surprised because there has been no let-up in fatalities and grievous injuries in road accidents, most of which are caused by reckless driving.
According to a passenger, the driver of the London Express bus was driving recklessly throughout the journey, overtaking other vehicles. At least eight people were killed as two buses collided on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet this morning.
The deceased were identified as Manzur Ali (38), driver of Ena Paribahan; Salman, (30) supervisor of the vehicle; Jahangir Hossain (30) helper of the transport; Shah Kamal (45) driver of London Express; Dr Imran Khan Rumel (48) lecturer of Women s Medical Hospital in Sylhet; Sagor (19); Nurul Islam (50) and Nilima Khatun (30), said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station.

Two motorcyclists were killed and one other person was injured as a bus hit their motorcycle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sylhet s Bishwanath upazila this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Masum Ahmed (28) from Lalabazar area of Sylhet s Dakshin Surma upazila and Taher Ahmed (30) from Bagha area of Sylhet s Golapganj upazila, said police.
Quoting witnesses, Akhter Hosain, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station, said the Habiganj Express bus hit the motorcycle in Rashidpur area around 2:30pm, leaving Masum and Taher dead on the spot and another motorcyclist injured.
