dog bite cases: Surge in dog bite cases across Karnataka, but total number of rabies deaths decrease

Karnataka has experienced a significant increase in dog bite incidents, with an average of 596 cases per day in the first nine months of 2023. This marks a 34% and 37% rise compared to 2022 and 2021, respectively. However, the number of rabies-related deaths in the state has decreased, with only two confirmed deaths in 2023 compared to 15 in the previous year. Medical experts emphasize the importance of preventive measures, such as thorough wound cleaning and rabies treatment.

Hand in glove

Bangalore Mirror had published a story – Glove affair – on March 17, 2023, about how the KSMSCL failed to check the quality of those surgical gloves and how it led to doctors suffering from dermatitis and allergic reactions. The doctors requested the Medical Superintendent to change the brand of surgical gloves that they were using in labour room and operation theaters.
