11 CUERO, Texas - Following Texas Governor Greg Abbott s order to begin vaccinating underserved populations, the Texas National Guard has gone on the offensive against COVID-19 hosting a vaccine clinic in Cuero, January 29, 2021.
The mission began in Austin as Texas Department of Emergency Management officials loaded a cooler containing 100 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine on a Texas Department of Public Safety Airbus AS350 helicopter. Half an hour later Texas DPS Pilot Mike Pena was circling the Cuero City Park and adjacent airport looking for a clear place to land.
At the gates to the Cuero Municipal Park Clubhouse, a steady stream of cars had begun lining up, each containing a preselected recipient of the 100 doses allocated for the community. Among those onsite to greet the incoming residents was Cuero City Mayor, Sara Post-Meyer who explained the demand for the vaccine in her city.

Donald E. (Dee) Rowe, former head coach of Men’s Basketball at the University of Connecticut and UConn’s iconic Athletics Ambassador for the past 53 years, passed away early Sunday, at his home in Storrs, CT at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family.
Dee was born on January 20, 1929, in Worcester, MA. He was predeceased by his beloved parents Minott and Arlene Rowe and his brother M. Richmond Rowe. At Middlebury College, Dee met the love of his life, Virginia (Ginny) Bradford Reynolds. Dee and Ginny were married for 64 incredible years and shared a deep love and adoration for each other. Completely devoted, they were each other’s best friends. Theirs was a love story for the ages. Together they raised a family of seven children, 17 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Dee’s family was his pride and joy, yet he and Ginny were the heroes of his family. Ginny predeceased Dee in 2018.

Almost Perfect Foundation made a donation to the non-profit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Kristen was able to donate enough money to have five beds made for children who have been sleeping on the floor.
