Trees were uprooted, roofs were blown off houses and electric poles were knocked down as Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat last evening. Heavy rain continued to lash coastal Gujarat in the morning today.
The intensity of Cyclone Biparjoy has reduced from 'very severe' category to 'severe' after the storm made landfall in coastal areas of Gujarat on Thursday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
As cyclone Biparjoy brought heavy rains to several parts of Gujarat, a cattle-rearer duo of father and son died while trying to save their goats stuck in a flooded ravine in Bhavnagar district on Thursday.
Around 4,500 people have been shifted from their homes to shelter homes as a precautionary safety measure ahead of cyclone Biparjoy reaching the coast of Gujarat.
Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall in Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch regions and adjoining Pakistan coasts on Thursday. The storm is currently located over the east-central Arabian Sea, about 350 kilometers southwest of Porbandar.
