Escaped Carjacking & Rape Suspect Arrested by U S Marshals

By Steve Bailey Lavelle Spencer Cleveland, OH - Earlier this morning, members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 17-year-old Lavelle Spencer. Spencer was wanted for Escape. On May 15, 2021, Spencer escaped from the Warrensville Developmental Center, where he was being treated, by court order, to stand trial. Spencer is awaiting trial on charges including robbery, aggravated robbery, grand theft, having weapons while under disability, failure to comply with an order of a police officer, assault, gross sexual imposition, kidnapping and rape. The U.S. Marshals offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Spencer’s capture. Numerous tips were vetted by investigators throughout the course of the investigation. Maple Heights police and U.S. marshals arrested a boy and a girl Friday in the homicides of Zachery Cuter, 29, and Ryan Tyler. 31, at about 1:15 p.m. on May 8. Chief Todd Hansen said police believe they have the main suspects in custody, but are continuing the investigation. The ages of the two suspects just arrested and other details weren t immediately released.

Lavelle Spencer, 17, remains at large Wednesday after escaping Saturday from the Warrensville Developmental Center in Highland Hills, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. Spencer was undergoing court-ordered mental-health treatment at the facility. Spencer is accused of being part of a group that committed six carjackings in late 2019 on Cleveland’s West Side. He also faces an unrelated sexual assault charge, and pleaded not guilty to the counts after his cases were moved to adult court in July.
