I work for the office of policy and management, and one of my responsibilities is to look hard at the prison system, and every year we produce recidivism studies and other studies related to people coming out of connecticut prisons over time. And ive been doing these studies for about ten years for the state of connecticut, and one thing that i have kind of come to accept working in criminal justice is its an area which doesnt prepare people to see a lot of good news. Most of the outcomes are generally not so good. So in terms of recidivism in connecticut, sort of for the threeyear period following an incarceration in connecticut, about 60 of the people that come out of prison are rearrested. Among people under the age of 25, it is about 72 . Those arent good numbers. In terms of risk and outcomes, in terms of mortality and other things, peop
