The crazy thing about this story is something similar happened about a month ago in bartow when an inmate on work detail stole a truck and kidnapped a corrections officer. Officials say the suspect locked the other inmates in a small building and used a sharp object to force the officer into a work truck before taking off. He was eventually caught in pinellas county. According to polk county, 45 yearold Joseph Flanagan of lakeland escaped on bob Phillips Road in bartow yesterday afternoon around 3 30. Place say flanagan was working in Fleet Maintenance and he this one. Its almost like deja vu for polk county officials. Last month an inmate led them on a manhunt after they say he made a makeshift weapon, kidnapped a corrections officer, and stole this pickup truck. Officials were able to catch the man in Pinellas County. For the current case, flanigan was in jail for stealing and violation of probation.
