More than £225,000 awarded to community groups in Cumbria Peter McCall More than £225,000 has been handed out in funding to support community groups in the last year. The Community COVID-19 Recovery Fund and Property Fund reinvests money seized from criminal behaviour and Cumbria’s Police and crime commissioner, Peter McCall has awarded £227,478 to organisations making a difference. “Redistributing money that has come from the ill-gotten gains of criminals can only be a good thing and since the start of the pandemic, the Community COVID-19 Recovery Fund and Property Fund grants have provided excellent opportunities for community activities and local charities to put the money where it is needed most and have the biggest impact,” explained Mr McCall.

£165,000 boost to support young people

Cumbria Youth Alliance has been awarded a development grant by the Youth Futures Foundation. The £165,300 award will support the organisation in its work to deliver First Steps to a Sustainable Future to 150 young people aged 16 to 24. Cumbria Youth Alliance was set up in 1997 to be the lead agency for organisations working with young people in Cumbria. Its aim was to bring agencies together to plan and deliver high quality services across Cumbria and ensure youth work has a strong voice. In 2020 alone it supported more than 700 agencies in the county which work with children, young people and families, as well as directly supporting more than 1,000 young people described as being “on the margins of society, socially and economically”.

Cumbrian community groups given £2 9m to help survive pandemic

MORE than £2.9m has been awarded to 194 organisations to help them support people through the pandemic. Cumbria Community Foundation has awarded £2,970,555 to organisations, thanks to the generous support of people, businesses, charitable trusts and public sector partners, as well as funding from a national appeal run by The National Emergencies Trust (NET). Grants have been awarded to support vital services like foodbanks, delivery of food and care packages to vulnerable people, telephone and online services offering friendship, support to help reduce isolation, emotional, mental health and financial hardship, and support to access benefits and debt advice to name but a few.
