Things to do May 7 weekend in the Rockford area

1. Stop by Lockwood Park for a film on the big screen Flix on the Farm will take place at 7:45 pm. Friday at Lockwood Park, 5201 Safford Road, Rockford. “Star Wars: A New Hope” will be shown on a large outdoor screen. Sound from the movie will be transmitted to car radios. The parking lot will open and the Children s Animal Barn will open one hour prior to the movie start time. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Cost: $12 per vehicle. For information: gorockford.com. 2. Take part in outdoor activities at Klehm Arboretum Go Public Garden Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, 2715 S. Main St., Rockford. Activities will include free daily admission, a spring smartphone tour and scavenger hunt, assorted children s activity kits, an educational webinar Mini Meadows and a Botanica presentation and workshop. Barstool Fund Saves Second Rockford Restaurant The Barstool Fund continues to do unbelievable charity work around the country.  If you re not familiar with the Barstool fund, here s a quick recap. The website barstoolsports.com has set up a fund that directly helps out local businesses get through the pandemic. Small businesses submit an application describing the situation that they re in. If they get selected to be part of the fund, they will receive enough funding to get them through the current month. Then the next month Barstool checks back and sees how they re doing. If they need more funding to stay open, they get more. Barstool is sticking with these businesses until the pandemic is over and they can survive on their own.
