The grant, awarded to the Humboldt County Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District, aims to create a terminal for the transportation, assemblies, construction and maintenance of floating offshore wind turbines. On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Jared Huffman touted the grant as a massive regional investment.
The board’s nearly unanimous vote – 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn was absent – to delay the agreement with Crowley Wind Services resulted from the lack of input from tribal governments and fishing groups.
The caps to permits and acreage are based on local watersheds, and the staff report contained a full table of each one in the county and the corresponding rules regarding how much acreage of legal cannabis cultivation exists on them. However, a referendum was not the only option the supervisors could pursue. They could enact several different types of moratoriums or adopt an ordinance modifying the Commercial Cannabis Land Use Ordinance.
