CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (10-11, 3-10 ACC) closed out its regular season on Easter Sunday afternoon at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility with a X-X victory over Virginia Tech (6-16, 2-11 ACC). The Tigers won the doubles point for the first time in eight matches and carried the momentum through the remainder of the match. Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain continued their stellar performance in doubles, improving to 10-4 on the season with a 6-2 win on Court 1. Knotted at one match apiece, Jenna Thompson and Dani Medvedeva battled to clinch the doubles point on Court 3 in thrilling 7-5 fashion. The Tigers brought a strong energy into singles play, as Buyckx made quick work on Court 6 to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Medvedeva followed suit, clinching her match 6-2, 6-1 moments later. CARBORRO, N.C. – The No. 57 Clemson women’s tennis team (10-10, 2-8 ACC) fell to No. 1 North Carolina (22-0, 11-0 ACC) on Friday by a score of 7-0. Despite the loss, several Tigers put up strong performances against highly ranked opponents. In doubles, The No. 61 pair of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain managed to put the top-ranked pair of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty on its heels, taking a 5-3 advantage. However, the match was abandoned at 5-4 after North Carolina clinched the doubles point. The Tar Heels carried the momentum into singles, winning each of the first five matches in straight sets. On Court 1, Clemson sophomore No. 107 Cristina Mayorova battled with No. 8 Cameron Morra, winning the first set 6-4, forcing the top-10 singles player into a decisive third-set. Morra barely held on to win the 10-point tiebreak 11-9 to complete the sweep. Up next, The Tigers will head up the road to Durham, N.C. to face No. Duke on Sunday. First serve is slated for noon.

Ali DeSpain fought back from a first set defeat to clinch the match for the Tigers on Court 4 with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. DeSpain and Samantha Buyckx won their doubles match to advance to 8-3 as a pair, James Madison quickly put pressure on the Tigers by securing the doubles point. Buyckx continued her scorching season by leveling the score at one apiece with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 5. She improved to 12-2 in the spring and 6-0 from Court 5. Cristina Mayorova gave the Tigers the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1, her second win in as many days. Jenna Thompson put Clemson up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. ATLANTA Cristina Mayorova defeated the No. 54 ranked singles player in Carol Lee, 6-4, 7-5 while Samantha Buyckx advanced to 11-2 on the season with a win on Court 5, but the No. 57 Tigers came up short against No. 28 Georgia Tech in a 5-2 loss. Georgia Tech took control of the match early despite a strong effort on Court 1 doubles from Buyckx and Ali DeSpain, as they lost a hard fought set to the No. 9 pair in the country, 6-3. The Yellow Jackets continued their solid play into singles, winning the first match to take a 2-0 lead. Buyckx looked to give the Tigers life as she prevailed in two sets, 6-4, 6-2. The Demon Deacons got off to a quick start, taking the first win on Court 1, 6-1. The duo of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain responded with their own 6-2 victory on court 2. With a tied decision, Eleni Louka and Lana Sipek fought a close match to ultimately lose the set 4-6 giving Wake Forest the doubles point. Wake Forest maintained control of the match early in singles play, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage.
