Swan and Cygnet Woods, Essex The ancient site of Swan Wood sits alongside its smaller, more recently planted neighbour, Cygnet Wood. Swan Wood, a mix of broadleaved trees, including sweet chestnut and hornbeam coppice home to woodland birds such as hawfinches, is awash with bluebells and wood sorrels at this time of year. A stream runs through it, with alder trees along its banks.
