The Hop-on Hop-off double decker bus called Ambari, which was flagged off in March in Mysuru to give a boost to the tourism sector, is seeing a low occupancy rate. The reason, is because the second wave of COVID-19 has increased the number of covid cases.
The Hop-on Hop-Off double decker, which was operated on a temporary basis during Dasara, has been introduced on a full time basis. Speaking to us, chairperson of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, actress-turned-politician Shruthi says, “Due to the sudden spike in covid cases, the occupancy rate is low. Some of the people who have boarded the bus have shared positive reviews. We have also asked to run the bus in vicinities of Mysuru so that at least people will get to know that such facilities are available for tourists.”

Ambaari named after the carrier placed on the leading elephant during the elephant procession of Mysore Dasara, is similar in its model and design to that of London big bus. It is ready to take visitors on a tour of the iconic landmarks around the cultural capital of Karnataka.
The frequency set for the bus service is half an hour. The fare is set at Rs 250 per person. Route map for the service will pass through fourteen destinations- Hoysala, moving through DC’s office, Crawford Hall, Kukkarahalli Lake, University of Mysore, Folklore Museum, Ramaswamy Circle, around Mysuru Palace, Mysuru Zoo, Karanji Lake, Sangolli Rayana C

The open-roof bus tour in a custom-built double-decker bus is at last becoming a reality with ‘Ambari’ all set to hit the road here on Tuesday. This is the newest attraction for tourists in Mysuru, as the bus takes them around to experience the city that is known for palaces and buildings with architectural marvels.
