good evening and welcome to a special edition of outfront. i m erin burnett in new york. tonight, along with my friend wolf blitzer in washington. former president donald trump is set to arrive just moments from now at his first town hall of the 2024 election in new hampshire to answer voters questions. former president looking to broaden his base as he attempts to win back the white house. he s leading all the other declared and nondeclared republican primary contenders by a wide margin in what are extremely early polls. but it comes at a time when trump is facing mounting legal troubles. this town hall comes just one day after a jury found trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation forcing him to pay some $5 million to the writer e. jean carroll. and just one month ago, the former president was indicted by the manhattan district attorney. the stakes are very high tonight for the former president of the united states. let s go right to cnn s kristen holmes who s at th

next hour, cnn this morning starts right now good morning, everyone is at hot out there. welcome to cnn this morning it is sunday, june 20. i m amara walker. i m victor blackwell. thank you so much for joining us. here is what we are watching for you this morning to president s two very different strategies, just four days away now until they re showdown former president trump is on the road. president biden is focusing on formal debate, prep are already taken some shot to one another plus anti-government protesters hit israel streets, demanding a hostage deal and calling for early elections. this as we learn of new strikes overnight in gaza, and after you re months of being stuck on a board, a cargo ship that destroyed the francis scott key bridge in baltimore. several of the crew members have finally been allowed to go home what we know about those who are still on board. and we re going to speak with port of baltimore chaplin, who s been in touch with the crew plus c
town hall for us in new hampshire. how are donald trump and his allies feeling heading into this critically important night? reporter: well, wolf, this is critically important, and they know that. the plane landed here in new hampshire just moments ago. trump and a small group of advisers are on their way here to the town hall. and the advisers i ve spoken to say he s as prepped as he s going to be. we have to keep in mind that trump is not your traditional candidate. there weren t an extensive amount of preparation that went into this last-minute cram session. however, his advisers are urging him two things. one is to stay on message, talk about policy, the economy, immigration. and, two is to stay measured. as we know, trump can act viscerally when he doesn t like them. they are taking trump out of that conservative media bubble that we ve really seen him in for the last five years. and they believe that they have to do this if they are going to
so there is no last-minute cram session. but the advisors i talked to said they are urging trump to focus on two things. one, to stay on message, talking about the things policy wise that he wants to accomplish if he wants wince in 2024, but also to stay measured. and they are expecting tough questioning tonight, not just from cnn but from the audience. they are trying to get out of that conservative voting bubble, that conservative media bubble. that is why they have agreed to do this town hall tonight. the one thing we are going to be watching very closely is keeping in mind that this is a a live audience. undecided republican voters. what are they reacting to in the conversation? what questions do they have for the former president? when you see those polls and the reason that we are doing this, the fact that he is leading in the primary field, you believe he has a huge amount of voters. but they know, his team knows from advisors i talked to, they believe they have to get outside o
