UNITED SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES 2021-2022 BUDGET WITH NO TAX INCREASE By Hometown2 On Tuesday, the United School Board approved their 2021-2022 budget that contained no tax increases. The budget revenues came to $22,882,710 with expenses coming to $22,764,512, leaving a budget surplus of $118,198.  The vote went 7-1, with Hunter Overdorff voting against the budget, saying he had submitted his own budget plan that would have resulted in the district being able to lower taxes, instead of leaving taxes flat instead of raising them.  He said that he submitted the plan to help out district families who have gone through tough times with the Covid-19 Pandemic and with rising unemployment in the region.

UNITED STUDENT, TEACHER HONORED IN FINANCIAL LITERACY COMPETITION

The Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy announced United Elementary fifth grader Remington Roddek was a top finisher in its Stock Market Challenge.  The competition, also held at the school and regional levels, teaches kids about how to invest in stocks, make stock market trades, analyze markets and build stock market portfolios through a competition against other students. The program was sponsored by S&T Bank.  Roddek was assisted in the competition by teacher Craig Bytner.  Roddek moved out of the district after the end of the contest, according to elementary principal Lewis Kindja
