New Delhi, Jan 16: Covishield vaccine has been developed by the University of Oxford and British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
Adar Poonawalla, Chief Executive Officer, Serum Institute of India (SII) which is British-Swedish pharma giant AstraZeneca s manufacturing partner - said that the vaccine would be 90 to 95 per cent effective if the two shots are parted by around 2-3 months.

Vaccine beneficiaries must rest for an hour, advises government

New Delhi, Jan 16: All beneficiaries of the vaccine against COVIDD-19 have been asked to rest for an hour after getting vaccinated.
The Health Ministry said that all vaccine sites have three marked areas for waiting, vaccination and observation. After one gets the jab, it is advised that they do not leave the site immediately as the effects of the shot, if any will be monitored at the vaccine site. Covid-19-appropriate behaviour, including the wearing of masks and social distancing, is to be followed, the ministry also said.

Kochi, Jan 16: Receiving the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine in this southern port city, renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram on Saturday hailed the country s efforts to wipe out the novel coronavirus and said he felt comfortable after the vaccination.
Dr Periyappuram, who performed the first successful heart transplant in Kerala, urged people to not fall prey to the false propaganda unleashed on the social media against the global effort to end the pandemic. New Delhi, Jan 16: India on Saturday launched one of the world s biggest vaccination programmes with COVID vaccines manufactured in the country - one developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, the other by Bharat Biotech International with a state-run institute.
It is reportedly said that three crore health and other frontline workers, followed by about 27 crore older than 50 or considered high-risk would receive COVID-19 vaccine.
