37 new COVID-19 cases reported in Windsor-Essex, no new deaths

  WINDSOR, ONT. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 37 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths. The death toll related to COVID-19 is at 403 people. Windsor-Essex has had a total of 13,928 confirmed cases of the virus, including 13,188 people who have recovered. Here’s the breakdown of new cases: 17 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases 5 cases are community acquired 2 are related to outbreaks 13 cases are still under investigation. WECHU says there are 337 active cases. There are 14 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital and four people are in the ICU. The health unit says 79 local Variant of Concern (VOC) cases have been identified in Windsor-Essex. That’s an increase of nine from Wednesday.

Flames engulf former restaurant in Leamington

WINDSOR, ONT. Leamington firefighters battled a blaze at a Leamington restaurant on Thursday morning. Crews were called to Paula’s Fish Place in the 800 block of Point Pelee Drive around 6 a.m. Fire Chief Andrew Baird said the building was fully engulfed when crews arrived. Braid said the fire started in the back of the building, and the structure is now a total loss. As well as a restaurant, there were two unoccupied apartment units on the second floor. There is no cause or estimate of damage at this piont. Baird said the business was closed and recently sold.

30 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths reported in Windsor-Essex

Essex County OPP seek information following Essex robbery

  WINDSOR, ONT. Essex County OPP are searching for robbery suspects who allegedly broke into a home, assaulted the resident and stole a variety of items. Police say officers received the report around 8 a.m. Wednesday that a robbery had just occurred at an Essex residence on Brien Avenue. Two suspects entered the house, assaulted the victim, and made away with stolen goods fleeing in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to come forward. The Essex County OPP Major Crime Unit is asking anyone with information regarding this or any other incident to call them at at 1-888-310-1122.
