WINDSOR, ONT. A made-in-Canada device is aiming to breathe new life into the COVID-19 battle, by taking a different approach on a device that has been crucial during the pandemic ventilators. A team of Windsor researchers is in the early stages of developing a non-invasive ventilation system called the Canada Hood. “We are trying to avoid putting people into an induced coma and breathing tubes. It’s a lot less harsh on the body,” says Dr. Jay MacDonald, emergency and hyperbaric medicine specialist at Windsor Regional Hospital. Dr. MacDonald is working alongside Windsor Regional Hospital’s former ER chief Dr. Rob Woodall and Dr. Clive Davis, an expert in respirology, intensive care, and hyperbaric medicine in Hamilton to spearhead this project.
The former head of the Windsor Police Service’s Major Crime Unit is encouraging the public to get outdoors as an escape from the ongoing pandemic restrictions.
WINDSOR, ONT. With the recent provincial shutdown restrictions put in place last week, the Town of Tecumseh is now implementing new health and safety measures at the Tecumseh skate park. We skate at all the skate parks in the region and a couple of them get very busy because they are very popular, says Windsor Roller Derby league member, Karlene Nielsen. Since the start of the pandemic Nielsen can no longer play the sport so the group transitioned to park skating in Tecumseh for the time being. It’s given us something important to do to keep us on our wheels still, keep us fit and it’s a ton of fun. It’s great to be outdoors where it’s safe, says Nielsen.
WINDSOR, ONT. Case rates of COVID-19 are reaching record high across the province and are growing in Windsor-Essex as well, prompting Windsor’s medical officer of health to issue a challenge to the community. “We have the opportunity to make the best use of it and use this as an opportunity to come out stronger once these restrictions are lifted,” Dr. Wajid Ahmed told reporters Monday. Windsor-Essex recorded 53 new cases of COVID-19 April 12, bringing the total active case count to 424. “That should put all of us in high alert to try to contain our cases locally,” says Dr. Ahmed.
