India aims to vaccinate around 30 crore people in the next few months
The first consignment of Bharat Biotech s Covaxin landed at Delhi airport via Air India flight AI559 from Hyderabad on Wednesday morning. Bharat Biotech aims to dispatch around 55 lakh vaccines to 11 states in the initial phase, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chennai and Jaipur.
NEW DELHI: The first phase of Covid-19 vaccination drive will be paid for by the Central government, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. As many as 3 crore frontline workers are scheduled to be vaccinated in the first phase which is scheduled to start January 16 onwards.
Interacting with the chief ministers of all states to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country, Modi said, public representatives a reference to politicians will not be part of the 3 crore who will be vaccinated first, Modi said.
This was Modi s first interaction with chief ministers following the recent approval of two coronavirus vaccines for restricted emergency use by India s drug regulator.

New Delhi, Jan 02: 40 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca could be shipped from the Serum Institute of India facilities in Pune and this would help India catch up with other nations that have started vaccinating their citizens.
The vaccine that was recommended for emergency use on Friday is currently the only candidate available in mass volumes. A quick roll out of the vaccine would be helped by the compatibility with the Indian cold chain network.
Serum Institute has been able to stockpile 75 million does and by the first week of January, we will have 100 million doses.
