Nearly 8 million Indians vaccinated so far, beneficiaries to receive second dose today
Since the launch of the nationwide mega vaccination drive in India, nearly 8 million people received the first shot of the vaccine dose, the Union Healh Ministry said even as beneficiaries received the second shot of the vaccine on Saturday.

The Covid-19 vaccination drive picked up pace on Saturday as many beneficiaries, who had received their first shots on Day 1 of the exercise four weeks ago (on January 16), turned up to get their second dose.
Addressing a press conference, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said all states and Union territories have been asked to schedule vaccination for all the healthcare workers listed on the CoWIN mobile application by March 1
As of 24 January 2021, some
16 lakh healthcare workers in India have been vaccinated under the national COVID-19 vaccination drive. The vaccination campaign isn t yet open to the general population. However, more people are being invited to get vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 by the day, and many questions still linger about vaccination, and the utility of the vaccines approved for emergency-use in India, in preventing COVID-19 disease in those who have been immunised.
Bharat Biotech s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India s Covishield are the only two vaccines with approval for emergency-use in India. The clinical trial process for these vaccines were fast tracked, cutting years from the testing and observation phases of the trial. Does this compromise the safety of these vaccines?
However, the number of active cases consisted of 2.02 per cent of the total tally as active cases dropped to 2,11,033. On Friday, as many as 15,590 COVID-19 cases were reported in India.
