Montrealers march in memory of Rebekah Love Harry, calling for action against domestic abuse

MONTREAL Montrealers gathered downtown Saturday in memory of Rebekah Love Harry, a woman who’s death sparked outrage across the province, as people demand the government do more to fight violence against women. Harry was found unconscious by police at her LaSalle residence on March 20. She was immediately rushed to hospital, where she later died. She was 29-years-old. Officers arrested Brandon McIntyre, 32, who has been charged with second degree murder and assault. Rebekah was an amazing woman, amazing mother, amazing cook, amazing singer, amazing dancer, and an amazing friend, said Sasha Bouvier, who’s known Harry for 10 years. We will truly miss her.

Two Brossard men electrocuted while trying to retrieve a drone struck in a tree

BROSSARD Two men were electrocuted on Saturday while trying to retrieve their drone from a tree in Brossard, south of Montreal. The two men, one in their sixties and one in their twenties, were taken to hospital. Authorities fear for the older man’s life, according to Longueuil police spokeswoman Mélanie Mercille. The incident happened around noon on Renard Street in Brossard. The two men were allegedly electrocuted by a Hydro-Quebec wire after their drone got stuck in the branches of a tree, according to Mercille. On its web page, Hydro-Quebec strongly discourages people from flying drones near hydro wires.

Still Talkin Habs: Canadiens lose feisty affair to Ottawa 6-3

MONTREAL The Montreal Canadiens were guilty of too many self-inflicted wounds they could not overcome as their multiple comeback bids fell short in last night’s 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators. To the neutral observer, last night’s Habs loss to the Sens must have been highly entertaining: turnovers galore, numerous scrums after the whistle and nine goals split between the two teams. Canadiens fans, though, were surely less than thrilled that their team followed up two dominant performances with a stinker that, despite their struggles, was there for the taking. “We were kind of just chasing the game the whole game today,” said Tyler Toffoli, after scoring on his return to the lineup following a two-week layoff due to injury. “Obviously Gally didn’t mean to do it…from then on we were chasing it. That’s not the recipe for success in any game against any team.”

A teenage driver is in hospital with serious injuries after an accident, speed and alcohol may have been involved

MONTREAL A 19-year-old driver suffered serious injuries after a road accident Sunday morning in Gore, in the Laurentians about an hour northwest of Montreal. Emergency services were called around 5:30 a.m. about a swerving vehicle that went off the road and crashed on Route 329 at the intersection of McDonald Road, about 20 kilometres north of Lachute. The driver, originally from Montreal, had to be transported to a hospital with the help of a rescue team, according to the Surete du Quebec (SQ). The passenger was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident, but speed and alcohol could be involved, according to the SQ.
