"The government is ready with a plan to vaccinate 4.34 crore eligible beneficiaries in next 75 days in 8,000 Government COVID Vaccination Centres across the state," the minister said. In a virtual meeting with State/UT Health Secretaries and NHM MDs chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Thursday (July 14), States and UTs have been urged to give an intensive and ambitious push toward full COVID-19 vaccination coverage by vaccinating all eligible beneficiaries.
COVID vaccines in stock are about to expire as people in 18-59 years age group are not coming forward for the third or precautionary dose of COVID vaccine, which are to be administered in private hospitals, Health director Dr Rajo said.
The government advisory panel, which met on Thursday, also reviewed the findings of a study by the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore on the feasibility of allowing as a precaution dose a Covid vaccine different from the one used for primary vaccination.
"Indian citizens and students travelling overseas can now take the precaution dose as required by the guidelines of the destination country. This new facility will be available soon on the CoWIN portal," Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet.
