TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 30/RV Florida State cross country teams will begin the 2022 season on Friday by racing in the Covered Bridge Open, which is held in Boone, N.C., and hosted by Appalachian State. The women’s 5K is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the men’s 8K will follow at 5:45 p.m. “We’re really excited to open the season again at the Covered Bridge Open,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “We have a 20-year tradition of opening at Appalachian State on their beautiful course, nestled in the cool mountains. Both teams endured preseason training camp in August and FSU will return to face RV/NR Tennessee in a dual meet on Sept. 16. FSU is familiar with starting the season at the Covered Bridge Open, as the Noles have swept both races in the previous four meets. Overall, FSU had swept 12 times. In addition to the Seminol

The opportunity to run again for such a talented team inspired four FSU women’s cross-country student-athletes to return for a fifth season. Amanda Beach, Lauren Ryan, Maudie Skyring, and Jen Lima took different paths, but ultimately jumped at the chance to compete in the Garnet and Gold one more time, knowing the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships in November would be on their home course. Beach transferred to Florida State from Duke for her final year of eligibility. Competing on a high caliber NCAA level was an opportunity she could not pass up. “Look around at the potential of this team,” Beach said. “Why wouldn’t someone want to be a part of it?” The Seminoles are currently ranked 10th in the nation, the highest since the 2015 season. Beach has contributed to a major part of that ranking as a fixture in FSU’s top five.
