NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The breweries in Southeast Louisiana are beginning to pour over, from large-scale production facilities to the more pint-sized shops, itâs a bustling scene of brews.
But a little more than 15 years ago, nearly all the breweries on the scene today didnât exist.
âThere were just no operating breweries after Katrina and this is very much a market that needed an influx of beer,â Patrick Brown, owner of 504 Craft Beer Reserve, said.

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Founded in 2016, Urban South Brewery is celebrating five years of good beer in New Orleans and beyond this April. In honor of its anniversary, the craft brewery is bringing the beer festival directly to fans with fifteen different collaborative beers from breweries around the world that will be released over the span of five weeks. The first anniversary beer release will take place on Friday, April 2.
“We are so excited to share this achievement with our team, our fans and some of our favorite craft breweries,” said Jacob Landry, Co-Founder of Urban South Brewery. “While our fifth year of business was certainly not what we expected, it did highlight the power of collaboration and the significance of small businesses working together during difficult times. Parish Brewing Co. s version of the beer is called the Black is Beautiful Dessert Stout. Our Black is Beautiful stout is both bold and decadent. We rested the massive base on smooth, Ugandan vanilla beans before dousing it with French Artisan caramel syrup and sprinkling with flaked sea salt. Aromas of salted caramel lattes greet the nose with hints of crème brulée on the palate, the website states.
Zony Mash Beer Project s incarnation is brewed with 150 pounds of Cafe Reconcile s Sweet Potato Crumble making this a deliciously thick beer, according to its website.
As a caveat of joining the initiative, breweries taking part pledged to donate a portion of the sales to groups dedicated to the initiative.
