Richard Driehaus, DePaul alum and business school namesake, dies at 78

The DePaulia Ella Lee, Print Managing Editor|March 10, 2021 Richard Driehaus, a DePaul alumni whose giving spirit led the university to rename its business school in his honor, died Tuesday at 78, the university confirmed Wednesday.  “Richard was an inspirational member of the DePaul University community who devoted so much of his life’s focus to the university and our students,” DePaul President A. Gabriel Esteban said in a statement. “His was the quintessential DePaul story – a son of the South Side of Chicago who learned the value of work early as a newspaper delivery boy.” Driehaus was born in Chicago and earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from DePaul in 1965 and 1970, respectively. Upon graduation, he worked in institutional trading at A.G. Becker before founding Driehaus Capital Management LLC in 1982, the Chicago Tribune reported. 

Esteban, other top admins discuss pandemic s impact on DePaul community

Gabriel Esteban and interim Provost Salma Ghanem.  Moderated by Daniel Allen, senior vice president for advancement, the roundtable focused on how the pandemic affects the community and its impact for the future.  The panelists included Esteban and his wife Josephine, Ghanem, Vice President of Student Affairs Gene Zdziarski, and Now We Must Chair  Sasha Gerritson.  President A. DePaul president: Student vaccinations won t be mandated, faculty vaccinations not such a big issue

The DePaulia Holly Jenvey, Staff Writer|January 14, 2021 During a faculty council Q&A session, President A. Gabriel Esteban spoke to faculty regarding a Covid-19 vaccination process and expressed that it is not a priority for staff  nor will the university require vaccination.  Thomas Mondeschean, a Faculty Council member from The Driehaus College of Business asked Esteban about the vaccination process of faculty, to which he responded it is “not such a big issue.” The university’s president said he was mainly concerned about the vaccination process for students.  “Right now, there is no plan on forcing people to have vaccinations,” Esteban said. 

DePaul faculty council, president spar over provost search

The DePaulia Holly Jenvey, Staff Writer|December 15, 2020 DePaul’s Faculty Council leadership and President A. Gabriel Esteban are at an impasse on whether to conduct a formal review of Interim Provost Salma Ghanem due to issues of shared governance. DePaul Newsline sent out an announcement from President Esteban on Nov. 13 revealing that the search for a new provost had begun. With this announcement, Esteban also mentioned that due to the uncertain environment that DePaul is currently operating as a result of Covid-19, a committee of faculty, staff, a student selected by SGA and board members was tasked with conducting a “an exhaustive formal review of the performance of the interim provost to determine if a national search is necessary.”
