George Washington Inn & Conference Center
The Schottenstein Realty Company submitted an application to rezone 6.4 acres off Merrimac Trail from general business to planned development residential.
The applicant, Jeff Schottenstein, proposed a plan to make the George Washington Inn and Conference Center into 125 workforce housing units for people such as first responders, teachers and nurses.
Besides the interior renovations, Tim Cross, the county’s planning director, said the applicant also wanted to demolish two existing structures the former restaurant building in front of the hotel and the rear conference center and one of the three entrances off Merrimac Trail.

An application by Schottenstein Realty Company for the purpose of redeveloping an existing motel (the George Washington Inn and Conference Center) into a 125-unit rental apartment building has been approved by the York County Planning Commission.
According to a York County Planning Commission Staff Report, Schottenstein has a contract to purchase the property and intends to redevelop it for non-transient residential occupancy.
Currently the property is a 250-room motel and conference center.
The property is designated Economic Opportunity in the Comprehensive Plan, intended to guide a mix of office, light industrial, commercial, and tourist related uses to certain areas of the county that have or are planned to have the access and infrastructure necessary to support both capital and labor intensive uses.
