Open Air Markets Return To County Showground This Weekend
By Amy Shephard
A series of Open Air Markets which were held last year at the County Showground in Cowes, will make a return from tomorrow (Sunday).
The event, which was popular with Islanders and traders in the summer months last year, was organised to provide the opportunity to shop out in the open air, minimising the risk of Covid transmission.
This year, the opening hours have been extended to 10am until 3pm. And from July 19, some light entertainment and food outlets will also be introduced to the market.
THERE will be hundreds of walkers, joggers and runners out around the coastal path this weekend, as part of the Isle of Wight Challenge. This popular annual event is one of a number of long-distance routes in the Ultra Challenge series and usually takes place in May but Covid restrictions meant this year s event was rescheduled. The Isle of Wight Challenge attracts participants from all over the UK and beyond. Many challenge participants are doing it to raise money for charity and there are quarter (26km or 32km), half (52km or 54km) and full distances (106km) available, as well as the new Southern 50km challenge, which goes from The Needles along the southern tip of the island and finishes at Culver Down.
