Detention officer charged in jail drug smuggling

Yarboro Eleven people, including a detention officer at the Yadkin County Jail, are facing charges after authorities discovered that narcotics were being smuggled into the jail. According to a press release from the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, items containing illegal narcotics were being mailed through the United States Postal Service into the Yadkin County Detention Center. Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said he considered this a very serious situation and that there was a no tolerance policy for such actions by detention staff. “It’s not just about keeping the drugs out of the facility, it’s also about the security of the facility and the safety of the officers that work there,” Oliver said. “One of the first things that I tell employees of the Sheriff’s Office is that we are not above the law. The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office has no tolerance for those who violate policy, procedure and the law.”

Three dead, one wounded in domestic shooting spree

By Kitsey Burns Harrison kburns@yadkinripple.com BOONVILLE Authorities have released additional details about a deadly domestic shooting spree that occurred on Sunday, ending with three dead and one person critically wounded. Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said deputies responded to a 911 hang up call on Sunday at approximately 2:29 p.m. that originated from a residence on North Oak Ridge Church Road. “Upon their arrival no one came to the door and an officer noticed an individual lying on the floor inside the residence” said Oliver. Deputies then entered the residence and found Peggy Huff Day, age 79, and her husband, Charles “Tom” Allen Day, age 82, both had been shot and were laying in the floor. Peggy Day was deceased and Charles Day was suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Mr. Day was transported by EMS to the hospital.

Multiple deaths after domestic incident near Boonville

By Kitsey Burns Harrison kburns@yadkinripple.com BOONVILLE A suspected domestic situation on North Oak Ridge Church Road ended in tragedy on Sunday afternoon with multiple individuals dead. Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said officers responded to a 911 hang up call on Sunday just after 2 p.m. “Upon their arrival no one came to the door and an officer noticed an individual lying on the floor inside the residence. Once inside they discovered two individuals on the floor. One was deceased, the other individual had been seriously injured. EMS transported that individual,” said Oliver. Oliver said deputies immediately began an investigation and were on the lookout for a vehicle of interest. The vehicle was located a short time later just a few miles away on North Oak Church Road.
