Gaston County hopes a new court program launched last year will put some repeat drug offenders on the road to recovery.
Gaston County joined 16 other counties across the state who have launched similar programs Adult Treatment Courts in recent years, including Mecklenburg, Wake and Watauga counties. Buncombe County s program has been in operation for approximately a decade.
The program will bring together court officials and community professionals to help non-violent offenders, many of them facing incarceration, put an end to their drug abuse.
It combines the experience and resources of court officials, prosecutors and public defenders, law enforcement and probation staff along with treatment and addiction specialists.
